October is breast cancer awareness month. Breast cancer is the most common cancer found in women. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women. One in eight women is diagnosed with breast cancer.  Women should be aware of breast cancer risk factors and prevention.  Early diagnosis can save millions of lives from breast cancer. Self-examine your breasts regularly, avoid smoking and excessive alcohol intake, do not ignore any lump or node in your breasts. If you are above 40 get your mammography done.

As a woman becomes older her chances of developing breast cancer increase. The most significant risk factors for breast cancer are female gender, growing age, breastfeeding, radiation exposure, obesity, genetic changes, alcohol consumption, previous breast cancer diagnosis, family history of breast cancer, late menopause, delayed first childbearing, no childbearing.  You can reduce your risk of breast cancer by following some instructions like having a healthy diet, exercise regularly, have regular health checkups, decrease the consumption of alcohol, say no to harmful chemicals.  There are some breast cancer preventions like maintain a healthy weight, eat a healthy diet include the fruits and vegetables in your diet, get regular physical activity, avoid alcohol, avoid exposure to radiation and environmental pollution, a limited dose of hormone therapy.
